Rest In Agony Authors
Oh there should be more initiatives like this!
The Internet Archive collection houses a number of classic public domain feature films and shorts, now available for viewing and downloading. And the best news is that there are really some genius films available. I'm really hoping the collection will grow because it's a great way of finally being able to see hard to get old movies.
So check out:
Two fabulous screwball comedies:
My Man Godfrey – Gregory La Cava
His Girl Friday – Howard Hawks
Two essential silent films:
Nosferatu – F.W. Murnau
The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari - Robert Wiene
A great film noir, remade in the 80's with Dennis Quaid:
D.O.A. – Rudolph Maté
The horror film that started it all:
Night of the Living Dead – George Romero
Must see camp:
Fast and the Furious - Roger Corman
Reefer Madness – Louis Gasnier
And who would wanna miss Cary Grant vs Audrey Hepburn
Charade – Stanley Donen
There's probably some more interesting stuff out there. I haven't been able to check the collection properly yet but now you know where to find it all.
And what's funny btw, is that some of these films like Charade for example or Night of The Living Dead lapsed into the public domain because of the film makers' neglect to put a proper copyright notice on the film's prints, at a time when proper notice was required to maintain copyright.
That law should be so reintroduced again.
